EWB's Research Program

EWB is pleased to announce that applications for the 2012 Humanitarian Engineering Research Program are now open.

We have been working hard with our community partners to develop a varied range of project offerings for 2012. These projects cover every type of engineering, as well as business, education and marketing. Some projects support the work of volunteers overseas - with projects based in Timor Leste, India, Nepal and Cambodia; while others support EWB's work right here in Australia. From designing clean water systems to developing training aids, these projects address real-world challenges in disadvantaged communities.

Launching in 2012 is the Open Research Challenge, a program where research students can define their own project, while still working to deliver a positive outcome for one of our community partners. This year the focus community is the rural village of Devikulam in southern India. This exciting new program will ensure that all students that have an interest in sustainable development and appropriate technology projects will be able to participate, without restriction on student numbers.

Applications for EWB's research program will occur over the coming months in a series of rounds, until all projects are filled. Once filled, a specific project will be taken off the EWB Research Project website and will no longer be offered. So, if you are keen on a specific project, I urge you to submit your application as soon as possible. Note that these projects can be either undertaken by an individual student (as a thesis) or within a group.

Applications for Round 1 are due on Monday, 21 November, 2011.
