President's Spiel

For the last five weeks, I have had the honour of being the proxy president of EWB Victoria. Many have noted that this years’ EWB Vic Team is the most vital that it has been for some time, with several outsiders commenting on the commitment and passion shown by the leadership group since the start of the year.  Coming in as a somewhat outsider, it's been quite clear to me that we have an extraordinary group at the helm this year.  This committee have achieved a transformation to a new structure, which will further empower the Vic Region to make sound decisions and support the universities, corporate partners, local projects and knowledge hubs – key features to EWB’s success.

For some in EWB, the organisation can be an up and down ride.  In Victoria, we have been fortunate with ongoing membership, strong successor plans, and a high level of commitment from all those involved. At present, some great work is being undertaken by the EWB SA crew, in Adelaide, who are currently rebuilding their Region from a small group of interested and committed individuals.  They are having their AGM on August 9 – and I wish them the best of luck from all of us over here in Victoria, as they find their feet!

The Victoria chapter’s astounding drive and transformation is largely due to our President, James Fitzgerald.  I was lucky enough to sit in his (big) chair over the last five brief weeks, and I would like to acknowledge all the hard work and effort that he puts in, the encouragement that we all receive, and his ever present optimism and imagination.  His winning of the prestigious EWB “Danny Award” this year is testament to his achievements, and I am very much looking forward to continuing to work with him and the rest of the stellar EWB Vic team.
