EWB National Council 2011

On an atypically sunny day in July, a group of nine EWB Vic members gallivanted halfway across the country to the drizzly Gold Coast for EWB Australia's National Council.  This small, diverse group spanned the breadth of EWB in Victoria, with representatives from both Corporate Partners and Universities along with a smattering of Vic Region Committee members (and one or two non-gineers as well).  Council, as it is affectionately known, is a forum for discussion, learning and decision making for the direction of EWB on a national basis.  It also represents a great opportunity for EWB folk from all backgrounds, locations and experience levels to get in touch with the organisation, their activities, counterparts in other states and learn about what makes this organisation a successful social enterprise.

The weekend was a ball of inspiration and direction,  with varying topics discussed and debated, including: the integration of Corporate Partners, Australia wide; managing information across our diverse community; leadership, training and how best to focus our community development efforts both locally and overseas.  The Vic Region also came into focus for all the hard work that James Fitzgerald and his committee have done in transforming our structure to something that is being replicated across the country.  This effort and James' tireless energy were recognised with his winning of the prestigious EWB Danny Award for outstanding work as the head of our chapter.
